Pollachi is located 42 kilometers south of the city of Coimbatore. This town has a pleasant climate and is a well- known shooting spot as lots of Tamil films have been shot here. It is also known as a pilgrim spot owing to its many ancient temples such as Maghudeeswaran Thirukovil, Echanari Vinayagar Thirukoil, Sulakkal Mariamman Thirukoil, to name a few.

The name Pollachi has an interesting history behind it. The original name was ‘Polil Vaichi’ which meant “The land of natural wealth and prosperity”. Over time this name changed to ‘Pollachi’.

Pollachi has Asia’s largest jaggery market. It is also known for its export of coconut and tender coconut. It lies very close to the Indira Gandhi National Park, which is a protected sanctuary and park that is part of the Nilgiris Biosphere reserve.

Pollachi is a town in Coimbatore, which is 40 kms from Coimbatore. It is one of the leading commercial cities. The town has a very good natural view. So the directors are very much interested in shooting in this place. One of the famous pilgrimage temples here is the Subramanian Thirukoil. There is a hill called Annamalai hill which is 34 kms from Pollachi is a good picnic spot. Siruvani dam and the waterfalls are situated to the west of Pollachi which is at 37 kms from Pollachi. In Annamalai hills, there is a Wildlife Santuary called Indira Gandhi wildlife Sanctuary. On the way to this Santuary there is major area which has coconut groves, green field, husking farms which attract the tourists and gives pleasure to their eyes. The facilities for the tourists are done here. They have arranged a van for the tourist to make a visit around the Santuary. The temples located here are dedicated to Lord Subramanya and Mariamman. In this Subramanya temple there are beautiful stone carvings like five hooded serpent and carved zodiacal signs.
